2nd America Poem

Back

February 2026

I feel so pretty and part of
everything in the plaza
$4 gallons, my own combustion
machine
me, burning up oil we stole
from a distant land
I feel so pretty and free in the
plaza
There's so many lines to color
in between with my combustion
machine
I see it over there, I parked
in a distant spot so it
would match the size of my
cigarette
all together now burning

Later in panera bread watching
the sunset I know this is the
end and I'm happy
I'm watching the end credits roll over
the greatest feats of human
civilization
Grecian tragedy parking lot
I see more cars than whatever
used to be there
O GAIA
what have I done?!

I don't think poetry is beautiful
I think the plazas are beautiful
Panera, T-Mobile, an urgent care,
price shopper, America
it's something I can relate
to with my dad.

Nature and sobriety are propaganda
There's a big sign that says

THANK YOU

in a font I recognize

One day the sky will be streaked
with advertisements and everyone
will have everything they ever wanted
always
what is my lineage? I'm terribly
lonely - wait, sorry I 'member now
I learned it in school. It's
ANDREW JACKSON and my grandfather
soldiers. Muskets and their faces
on currency, and a
packaged cookie

I don't know who grows the
food I eat
It appears magically when I
flip coins and skip
rocks into the mall fountain

Thank you Andrew Jackson
grandfather, dad
America, etc.
for the burning convinience
and
pretty
pretty plazas
