I saw two ravens & after

Back

10/17/24

I saw two ravens -
Between twin mountains
In blue, empty space
flying like brushstrokes.
Above was the ground
Below was the sky
And right now, the water is calm
An insect lands on the moon
gently ruffling eternity, and nearby
Birds are singing a sad song.
I take off my hat,
empty my pockets and offer the contents
to Mother Nature, for now
I kick off my boots
and wrap myself tighter in the shawl
Crouched down by the pond,
consciousness expands
and I will leave it at that.

After

I return to my body hungry and
knowing that nothing will satisfy me.
Staring at the negative space
created by bat's wings, and
the shadows of my campfire, which
I let burn to white rocks.
See,
If it was morning, it'd be a kaleidoscope
of butterflies swallowing each other up
on a sunlit forest path
But this is a cool evening
where Peace has nimble feet
and scurries away at the crack of a log...
